The All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate Rt. Hon. Obongemem Ekperikpe Ekpo that was filed by the party after the declaration of Ikot Ekpene Senatorial election as void has gained support of Sen. Godswill Akpabio.

Obong Ekperikpe Ekpo who is a former Member of the Federal House of Representative and a Senatorial aspirate in the just concluded election is said to be man to flag the party’s senatorial ticket.

Obong Ekperikpe will be challenging Senator Christopher Ekpeyong of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the re-run election.

It could be recalled that the Court of Appeal sitting in Calabar, Cross River State had voided the declaration of Dr Chris Ekpenyong by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the Senator representing Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District and ordered fresh election to be conducted in Essien Udim Local Government Area. INEC has scheduled the election for January 25, 2020.

The Senator said he has given his full support for a former Member of the House of Representatives, Hon Ekperikpe Ekpo whom his party, (APC) had picked as his replacement, having emerged as the runner up in the primaries, and urged his supporters and the people of Essien Udim to massively vote for him.

It is noted that INEC having seen the qualification of the former House of Representatives has knowledge his status as the Candidate for the re-run election.

The state chairman of APC, Hon. Ini Okopido has expressed his satisfaction with the senatorial candidate of the party and has expressed the party’s readiness for the re-run.

The chairman who expressed his satisfaction with the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) Mr. Mike Igini, describe Mr. Igini as a compromised official who is partial and bias.

“As we prepare for the re-run elections in Essien Udim LGA, we are cautious and mindful of a re-run election superintended by Mike Igini. We have no faith in Igini’s impartiality as an unbiased and independent umpire. Igini is a compromised official and avowed enemy of APC. We are distraught and doubtful of a change of posture and therefore cautious to go into a fresh election while Igini remains the State REC. Only a foolish survivor would ask the same hired assassin to extract the bullet from his body.” Okopido said.

The APC national leaders has also express their satisfaction with Hon. Ekperikpe’s candidature and call on all eligible voters for the re-run election to stand still and defend their votes for the party.
